Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables and houseplants, along with soil, mulch, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries often grow part of their own stock and carry varieties that do well in the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Wholesale nurseries and growers sell to landscapers and sometimes to the public at volume prices; tree nurseries sell balled-and-burlapped and container trees and can deliver and plant large specimens. Specialty growers focus on bonsai, cactus and succulents, orchids or native plants, and hydroponics stores sell lights, nutrients and systems for growing indoors.

Miami is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Miami is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Florida's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I ordered a 15 gallon Jatropha tree and it arrived in good health with blossoms and nicely proportioned. I ordered it on May 4th, it arrived May 8th (delivered to Port St. Lucie, FL).

Full disclosure: my husband also left a review (as I never do), but this experience was so unacceptable that I feel obligated to warn others. We ordered a β12-footβ Fiddle Leaf Fig tree based on photos provided by this seller. What showed up was nothing short of a disaster. A β16 ftβ tree was brought in wrapped up, once settled in our living room we soon discovered it was clearly infested with bugs, riddled with holes, and in terrible condition. We immediately contacted the seller and were told she would get back to us later as it was βthe weekendβ. Within 3 DAYS it was completely DEAD! There has been a complete lack of accountability. The seller has refused to provide any refund and will not even arrange pickup of this massive, 500-pound dead tree now sitting in our living room. We are left dealing with the cost, the removal, and the mess of a product that never should have been delivered in the first place. This is not just poor qualityβit feels like outright negligence. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration and avoid this seller! See photos of this disaster.

UPDATE. She writes that she wants to help is an automated response... no one does anything.

Easiest experience ever! We could not find a local nursery that carried this tree or that would get back to us. Smartyplants answered every email and/or chat within the same day and sent pictures of different sized plants so we could determine the correct size for our yard. We were told the tree would be delivered today and lo and behold it was. The gentleman who installed the tree was very meticulous with keeping the yard and surrounding concrete clean and he staked the tree and told exactly how to care for the tree until established. We definitely recommend SMARTYPLANTS and will be using them again.

I searched about 5-7 different nurseries in the area looking for two trees to replace my Christmas palms in my screen enclosure. I settled on ponytail palms because they're slow growers. However they are very hard to find for that same reason. Various nurseries have terrible websites, bad customer service, don't follow through (just try to get a picture of the plant you want to buy), and try to gouge you on the price. I used AI to do a deeper search just for the specific trees. I was able to then identify Smarty Plants and found exactly what I was looking for. The transaction was easy on the website - I was sent a picture of what one of trees looked like - I bought two online - and had them installed by end of the week. The first two trees that arrived didn't look like the original picture, but they gladly exchanged them and the next two were exactly like the picture. They were installed as well and I came home from work with them in the yard. I plan on doing more business with Smarty Plants. :)
